The Kerala Story is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language movie directed by Sudipto Sen, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The plot follows the story of a group of women from Kerala who are converted to Islam and join the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The movie has courted controversy for portraying itself as a real story and for making false claims that thousands of women from Kerala are being converted to Islam and recruited into ISIS. The movie also faces opposition from political parties in Kerala who allege it’s promoting the Sangh Parivar’s agenda.
kerala story malayalam movie

The movie stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani. It is scheduled to be released on 5 May 2023.

Premise and factual accuracy

The movie is captioned as being based on a real-life incident, while the reliability of the statistics shown are not backed by any real evidence. It makes a reference to Love Jihad propaganda in Kerala, where Muslim youth allegedly lure Hindu girls to convert them to Islam.

The teaser, released on 3 November 2022, featured Adah Sharma playing the character of Fathima Ba — a Hindu Malayali nurse — who had converted to Islam and joined the ISIS, before ending up in an Afghan jail. She identifies to be one of the 32,000 girls, from the Hindu and Christian communities, who are missing from Kerala and have been recruited to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) after being converted to Islam. The claimed figures are widely inaccurate, being based on mistranslations, misquotes and extrapolations from misrepresentations of unrelated statistics.

The Observer Research Foundation in a 2019 report notes that about 60 to 70 individuals had joined ISIS from Kerala between 2014 and 2018. According to Indian government figures not more than a total of 100 – 200 Indians had joined the organization over the years, one of the smallest figures of any country with a substantial Muslim population. The US Department of State in its 2020 report on terrorism had documented that there were a total of 66 individuals from India who were affiliated with ISIS at that time.

The events portrayed in the movie seem to be inspired by four women from Kerala who converted to Islam and traveled with their husbands to Afghanistan to join ISIS between 2016 and 2018. They were part of a 21-member group from Kerala to join ISIS in 2016, remain incarcerated in Afghanistan since surrendering in 2019.

Opposition

Both Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) — the only two parties to have governed the state since Independence — have objected to the release of the movie for propagating communal misinformation. They have further alleged that the filmmakers are promoting the agenda of the Sangh Parivar of defaming Kerala and propagating the idea of “love jihad”, a Hindutva conspiracy theory. Responding to the allegations, producer Shah has said that “nothing we say will be without evidence” and that Sen had conducted four years of research for the movie .

After a Tamil Nadu-based journalist filed a complaint with the Kerala chief minister, by stating that false propaganda is being done against Kerala and communal harmony is being destroyed, Kerala state police chief Anil Kant directed the Thiruvananthapuram City Police to register a case based on a report by hi-tech crime inquiry cell of Kerala Police. However, based on legal counsel’s advice, as of 15 November 2022, an FIR was not filed. As of 9 November 2022, the movie is subject to an investigation.

Cast

  • Adah Sharma as Shalini Unnikrishnan / Fatima Ba
  • Yogita Bihani as Nimah
  • Sonia Balani as Asifa
  • Siddhi Idnani as Geetanjali

Production and release

The movie was produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who is also the creative director of the movie. It is scheduled to be released in theatres on 5 May 2023.

Malayalam Actor Mamukkoya Biography . https://a2zindiancinema.com/2023/04/28/malayalam-actor-mamukkoya-biography/ https://a2zindiancinema.com/2023/04/28/malayalam-actor-mamukkoya-biography/#respond Fri, 28 Apr 2023 19:04:00 +0000 https://a2zindiancinema.com/2023/04/28/malayalam-actor-mamukkoya-biography/ Mamukkoya (5 July 1946 – 26 April 2023) was an Indian actor known for his work in the Malayalam cinema. He also appeared in few Tamil films and the French film Flammens of Paradise. He mostly appeared in comedic roles. His unique usage of the Mappila dialect and style marked his presence in the industry. In a career spanning over four decades, Mamukkoya acted in more than 450 Malayalam films and was the first winner of the State award for best comedian in Malayalam cinema.

Early life

Mamukkoya was born to Chalikandiyil Muhammed and Imbachi Ayisha on 5 July 1946. He has a brother Koyakutty. He had his primary education from MM High School, Calicut. Mamukkoya began working at a timber yard in Kallayi after completing his education at Pallikandi Elementary School, Kuttichira Higher Secondary School, and Kozhikode MM School. He participated in theatrical productions when he was in school. Later, he began performing in a number of amateur plays. He would perform in plays at night and work in the timber yard in the morning.

Career

Mamukkoya started his career as a theatre actor. He got his chance in the film industry through Anyarude Bhoomi (1979). His second entry to Malayalam cinema was through S. Konnanatt’s Surumaitta Kannukal. He was recommended by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer for the role in the movie. After this film, he was introduced to Sathyan Anthikkad by scriptwriter and actor Sreenivasan. Mamukkoya appeared in Siby Malayil’s Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam, written by Sreenivasan. In the film, he played an Arabic teacher. Initially, the character only appeared in two or three scenes. However, Mamukkoya’s performance impressed the makers who added further scenes for his role. Mamukkoya would later say that after this movie he stopped going to the timber yard or appearing in plays. He then landed a role in Gandhinagar Second Street, which was also written by Sreenivasan. This was one of his first notable roles. Then came Sathyan Anthikkad’s Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam’ and ‘Rareeram’ by Siby Malayil. His portrayal of Gafoor in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Mohanlal – Sreenivasan starring Nadodikkattu (1987) carved a niche for him in Malayalam cinema. The character Gafoor now enjoys a cult following in Kerala. An animation series was released based on this character after several years. His award-winning performance in Perumazhakkalam (2004) proved that he can handle non-comedy roles as well with ease. He again did a similar role in Byari, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.[8] He did the title role in the film Korappan, the great (2001), which depicted him as a forest brigand like Veerappan. In 2004, he received a Special Mention in the Kerala State Film Award for the movie Perumazhakkalam.[9] Mamukkoya’s roles in Ramjirao Speaking, Thalayana Manthram, Shubhayatra, Irupatham Noottandu, Sreedharante Onnam Thirumurivu, Ponmuttayidunna Thaaravu, Pattanapravesham and Dhwani are considered among the best of his career.

Personal life and death

Mamukkoya was married to Suhara. The couple had four children; Muhammed Nisar, Shahitha, Nadiya and Abdul Rasheed. He was residing in Kozhikode near Beypore. Mamukkoya had a very close friendship with Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, S. K. Pottekkatt and M. S. Baburaj.

“No matter what anyone says, I will say what I think is right, anywhere. The confidence to face anything is what makes me who I am. Although he is a doctor by profession, his passion is towards acting and modeling. When it comes to life and experiences, Shinu has a tongue in cheek. Women are not meant to be confined to four walls, they are meant to go out into the world. You have to see, hear and experience everything to move forward with life. After marriage, most women live for others, keeping their dreams and desires inside. Shinu’s side is that the time has come to demolish that era. Not the views of the four walls.

A woman must travel to the illusions of the world. It is up to us to polish our inner desires. All women should be able to find their passions and give wings to their dreams.

Shinu talks to Manorama Online about his life experiences and travels.
 To women on Women’s Day
International Women’s Day celebration is a part of women empowerment. This day is very important. Changes are not just for one day. All women should be able to find at least one hour for ourselves, giving priority to our interests. Each of us should be able to take a step forward without standing where we are
Today there are very few areas where women do not cross, and women’s safety is still a barrier. That should be resolved. Also public spaces should be made women friendly.
 Always be independent in life
When we are able to face any obstacle alone, we truly begin to live.  We should find out our tastes and set aside at least one hour for those tastes.  First you have to live with freedom.  The first freedom is the freedom of the mind.  It will add a new dimension to the journey.  That positive vibe can be achieved through solo travel.
Traveling changed my life. Every opportunity that falls is changed for travel. Meet new people, understand their lifestyle and learn the culture of the country. Everything you need to overcome fear and gain the courage to overcome anything can be acquired through travel. We should try to know the world and not just the knowledge confined in the textbook. Women should travel alone at least once.
Today is the day to start
Whatever should be accepted from the tradition should be accepted in the heart and what should be changed should be changed.
To achieve the rest in life you have to achieve. As the years go by, looking back, it seems that there is no perfection anywhere in life.
Do not leave the earth leaving behind desires. Women have many things to do, they should be able to go out into the society, listen to the sorrows of others, women are not confined to the family, they should do what they can for the world, what experiences they can gain through travel will really change their lives, the important thing is that we should find time for all this. Only then will life be meaningful.
Those who love travel say that all travel is an adventure, but for some, travel is a heap of experiences. The journey leads to an idea of renewing life. Travel is the best medicine to turn negative thoughts in life into positive ones. Travels that make the mind free will make life colorful. Infuses positive energy in mind and body. We are not talking about shouldering debts and tripping abroad thinking that we have to travel, there are many places in our country. Many mind blowing places

Swam with the shark
An unforgettable trip was to the Maldives which can be described as heaven on earth. It was the first trip abroad alone. It was a trip to Maldives where I enjoyed everything from green beach, oyster sighting, snorkeling and surfing. It was a four day trip. It was a journey that gave me a lot of happiness. Saw the dolphin. I was able to swim with the shark. Those were fun days.
What attracted me was the cleanliness of its beaches and the people of those days. The beaches are so clean that there is not a single unnecessary paper to be seen. I thought that this should be the case in our country too. They take care that the beauty of nature is not harmed.
Tourism is the main source of income in the Maldives. Therefore, their behavior towards guests is also impressive. It can be said that I was really beaten up for four days after being immersed in the beauty of the Maldives. Eau Island is a place I would love to go to if I get another chance.
 The glory of old
He has also traveled a lot within India. I like Rajasthan the most. Rajasthan, the land of the Rajputs, is a land that beautifies forts and palaces. Sand dunes, mountains, lakes and jungles await in this land steeped in the history of the valiant Rajput kings.
The skyscrapers and palaces that evoke the grandeur of the past are the face of the beauty of Rajasthan.
The interior views of the palaces of Annadu, where royal strategies and war stories sleep, will fascinate anyone. I liked Rajasthan a lot. The taste of its mutton dishes cannot be forgotten.
Favorite place in Kerala
You should go to Nelliambat when the rains have subsided but it is absolutely cold. Every aspect of it is very beautiful. The path itself is brilliant. Nelliampathi, also known as Mini Ooty, has a beauty that attracts anyone with its foggy and cold weather. You can hear the sound of wild birds chirping at the foothills. Nelliampathi is a tourist destination that can be visited throughout the year.
This hill station is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level. 10 hairpin turns to get here. During these winding journeys, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the Pothundi Dam as well as glimpses of nearby wildlife.
 Journeys never end
I believe that age is not a factor in wish fulfillment. There is so much to see and experience on this earth. My desire is to enjoy all that in life even if it takes time. No matter how old you are, if you have the same desires, you can overcome any difficulties and move towards your goal. Switzerland and New York are also on my bucketlist to see.

 React strongly against bad experiences
There should be a strong response against the increasing violence against women in the society. Before, all the girls would be patient and silent. Today all that has changed. No one reacts when the limits of tolerance are crossed. I have had a lot of bad experiences while traveling. The experience of traveling by train is what matters now. Once I took a train from Shornur to Bengaluru alone. Salem is near. A man was leaning on my berth. At first I didn’t mind, then he touched my leg. I immediately responded. Suddenly he moved away.
No matter how brave you are, anyone can feel fear when traveling alone. I always think. How safe would women travel if there were cameras in the train?
 Profession and Passion
I am not one to leave my profession to pursue my passion. I felt a desire to act, and that desire was fulfilled.
I have a very supportive staff. A lot of people were mentally exhausted when they got into modeling and film. Tried to push back. The society used to say that he is not a doctor. There too, I took my rights. If we are successful in life, we should understand that society is like that, and those who have accused this crime will stay with us. We must always live as ourselves.

These images were captured in 2015 on the set of the film Grand Master. These are pictures of the two of them cracking quips and having fun between takes. Jagathy Sreekumar was someone who made us chuckle a lot and told jokes all the time. In the moment and outside of his role as Rehazel, he was grinning a lot. The place was filled with a lot of merriment. Kochi hosted the victory party for the movie. The day after the event ended, the Jagathy Sreekumar accident occurred in Kozhikode.

Mammootty "Christopher

On February 9 of this year, Mammootty’s “Christopher” was released in theaters to mixed reviews from the crowd. The movie made more than Rs 4 crore in 4 days, surpassing the earnings of Mohanlal’s “Spadikam 4k.”

Mammootty plays the lead role in “Christopher,” which is billed as an investigative thriller. The film’s outstanding performance by Mammootty is reportedly its standout moment, despite the script’s lackluster quality. Internet users praised “Christopher” as being somewhat superior to Udaykrishna’s prior film, “Aaraattu,” which starred Mohanlal in the title role and sadly ended up being a box office failure the previous year.
